First Blog

I found that blogging is a way to communicate with others and that millions of people "blog" daily. It is a social networking service that is interactive with other readers and bloggers. A blog can be text, images or links: it depends on what is being transmitted.
It was started in 1994 and it is a tool for outreach and opinions. There are different types of blogs such as:

  • personal
  • collaborative/ group
  • microblogging
  • corporate and organizational
  • genre
  • media
  • reverse
Blogging has its own Code of Conduct but it is up to the individual using the system. It also has legal liabilities and some people lost their jobs because of blogging.  Just like Facebook, it will create problems if one is not careful about things they blog about.
I find blogging interesting but I do not have time to blog and it seems like Facebook to me. It involves lots of people and I do not have the time to blog during the day because I am so busy teaching.  It may be a great way to learn about certain things but it is not for me.
It was also too much information trying to figure out how to get on to blogging and getting things on but it is required for our class so here it goes.
I am learning new things in this class especially about my own computer and using my learn and wiki.  I like the idea that all the information is in one location with Wiki.  I think all the things we are learning with blogging, Wiki, and class discussion is great for the older students and I do not find it relevant for my second graders.  The community that I am working in also has problems with getting internet and even WIFI.

  1. Great information about blogs. Like you I find blogging interesting, but I don't have the interest to have my own, and I also don't have a lot of time to do it. It seems to take a lot of time to think on what to write about, post images and other things. I see potential to implement it for helping students with their writing.

  2. I agree with you that we can not use blogging with primary grad levels. It is a good thing with middle school and above because in that age the students will have more information and they can think critically.

  3. I think many of us have the same feelings about blogging that you do. I hope you find it a worthwhile assignment and are able to learn from it.

  4. Like you I felt blogging was problematic. I simply didn't feel that it is a useful tool. After trying it a couple times I somewhat changed my mind. It can be used for good information if the person blogging is well-rounded on the subject that is discussed. With this book and blog thing that we are doing I can see that it could work in order to collaborate with other teachers by sectioning out research and in turn getting different perspectives on the work.

  5. My son's elementary teachers in the past have had classroom blogs. I always thought it was a nice way to see what they were doing and see pictures. That may be one way you could use blogging in an elementary setting.

  7. I agree with you Merlinda, I still have mixed feeling about blogging. It could be good way for distributed knowledge approach. However, sorting through thousands of blogs could proof eventually useful but for me is considered it a low efficient way to get results.
